Curriculum Overview
The aim of the Wesley College residential learning village project is the education of the whole person in a community. Wesley @ Clunes aims to provide an environment for all learners, which is safe, caring, structured, challenging and engaging. In turn we aim for all learners to be reflective, passionate, enthusiastic and active.

Wesley @ Clunes provides students with an eight-week residential educational experience. Students live in houses with seven other students and no adults. Students are responsible for all aspects of their domestic life while in residence, including shopping, cooking and cleaning. Living in this environment helps provide students with a greater understanding of what it means to become more adult and gain a truer understanding of their place in the world.

The curriculum is student-centred and often negotiated in a collaborative manner with staff. The Clunes program provides opportunities for students to take some control and responsibility for what they learn. In doing so, the traditional relationship between student and teacher has been reconstructed. A different focus has been given to the educational process, where the learning emphasis is more individualised, and one where the emphasis is upon personal relationships and community rather than just academic pursuits. Students are required to reflect on themselves as learners and examine ways to enhance the learning process. This reflective process is facilitated by the use of The Clunes Journal. Regular journal writing sessions occur during the weekly program.

The Curriculum for Wesley’s residential program has grown from the vision and underpinning philosophy for Clunes. The notions of dimensions of being and the complexity of intelligences or capacities have been equally important in its development. From this complex foundation, the learning focus that has emerged for Clunes is different, however will complement and enrich the campus based curriculum.
